DNS Verification in Hostgrid
When you add a custom domain in Hostgrid, we first need to confirm that you own it.
This is done through DNS verification.
Until verification succeeds, the domain will not become active or serve traffic.
What Hostgrid is checking
Section titled “What Hostgrid is checking”Hostgrid looks for specific DNS records that you add during setup.
These records prove that you control the domain.
Once the domain is created, Hostgrid continuously checks whether those records are visible on public DNS servers.
When DNS checks happen
Section titled “When DNS checks happen”DNS changes can take time to propagate across the internet. To avoid requiring manual refreshes, Hostgrid automatically checks your domain multiple times after it is created.
We run a maximum of 15 DNS checks per domain.
The checks happen at the following intervals (in minutes):
0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 15, 30, 60, 180, 180, 180, 180, 180For example, if you create your domain at 09:00, Hostgrid will check DNS at:
09:00 → immediately09:0109:0309:0609:1109:2109:3610:0611:0614:0617:0620:0623:0602:06 (next day)05:06 (next day)After the 15th check, Hostgrid stops retrying automatically.
If the domain is still not verified at that point, it usually indicates a configuration issue rather than propagation delay.
Why your domain may still be pending
Section titled “Why your domain may still be pending”A domain may remain unverified for a few common reasons:
- DNS records have not propagated yet
- The record was entered incorrectly
- The value does not match what Hostgrid provided
- A conflicting DNS record exists
- Proxying is enabled in your DNS provider (for example Cloudflare proxy mode)
In most cases, the issue resolves automatically once DNS propagation completes.
What you should do
Section titled “What you should do”If your domain is still pending:
- Double-check the DNS records in your provider dashboard
- Ensure they match exactly what Hostgrid provided
- Confirm there are no conflicting records
- Wait for propagation to complete
- Avoid repeatedly editing records during propagation
When verification completes
Section titled “When verification completes”Once Hostgrid detects the correct DNS records:
- The domain is marked as verified
- SSL certificate provisioning begins automatically
- HTTPS is enabled
- The domain becomes active and starts serving traffic
If verification fails after all checks
Section titled “If verification fails after all checks”If all 15 DNS checks complete and your domain is still not verified, it usually means there is a configuration issue with your DNS records rather than a propagation delay.
